Medifast program before DS---help or harm?

Indiana DS'ers-

I am pre-op scheduled for DS on 2/25/09.

I have been on medifast for the past five months.  I have lost from my highest weight of 393 to 359.  The program uses a 5+1 method. five Medifast replacements (they have soup, chili and all that stuff, but I'm sticking with five shakes) and a "lean and green" meal.

I know that I'll have to do a liquid diet right before surgery, to cut down on a fatty liver, according to another DS'er, but is doing a modified fast program harmful before surgery?  I was told not harmful by my PCP, as long as I get enough protein, but I'm beginning to wonder.

Jazz,

There aren't many DS'ers here on the Indiana board. You might have better luck getting an answer on the DS board or the Main board. If it were me, I'd call Dr. Inman's nurse and talk to her about it.

Thanks, Sherri-

I will.  I tried calling before the holidays, left a mesage, but no call back.

I'll try again next week.

I'm going to try to make the party on the 13th.  Hope to see you there!

Which party on the 13th? The ornament exchange at Floyd & Brenda's is the 6th & the St. Vincent party is the 9th. If it was one of these two (or both) I didn't want you to miss out because of the wrong date.

The Clarion one maybe? I hadn't seen anyone post the date for it yet (if they have one...???).

Sherri-

I must have mixed up information on a holiday party I'm attending where I live!.

I'm not sure about either party in Indianapolis.

Well...you're welcome to the ornament exchange on Saturday. It starts at 11 and is on the east side of Indy. Contact Floyd & Brenda at [email protected] if you are interested. It's open to everyone on the board. Feel free to bring a guest with you..but it's pretty much for adults only. Their house is about like mine & Bill's...not 'child-proof'...so I'd make it a good excuse to have a day away from the kiddies if you have young ones. Bring a wrapped (or bagged) ornament with you for the exchange (one for each person who is coming with you) & a low carb/low fat/sugar-free dish.

The St. V's party I think is open to post-ops only.

Enjoy yourself at the party on the 13th! LOL!

Sherri-

I was at a support group meeting last month, and they said everybody...pre-ops, post-ops.

I beleive it was Linda, the nutritionist, who made a point of saying they were having "bariatric friendly food".

I'll ask my group leader up here.

I would love to come to the ornament exchange, but I have to save for my trip to Houston.

I was blasted back to reality today after I sat down to pay my bills.

That's cool that they changed the rules. It didn't matter before if you were approved & had a surgery date scheduled..St. V's had made it clear 'post-ops only'. I thought that was always unfair. Afterall, it wasn't the pre-op's fault if their insurance took a long time to approve them or if their surgeon' waiting list was 4 months long. Our activities on here are ALWAYS pre  or post o*****t looking into a surgery at all and are here for support for the obesity.

It'll be great to meet you!
