Next week our company is having a holiday lunch at Milano Inn here in Indianapolis. This will be the first time that I will eat somewhere other than home after surgery.
My Hubby and I like to eat out (or used to eat out) but I have never been to this restaurant. Has anyone been there? What can I eat? I wish I could get out of this but that is not an option. We are having a mandatory staff meeting that morning and then everyone is expected to go to the lunch.
I got through Thanksgiving fine because we were at home and I was not tempted to eat the wrong thing or eat too much. My Hubby and Mom are very supportive. But I will be with co-workers that don't know anything about my surgery.
Truthfully, their menu is NOT wls friendly. Everything is fried, or smothered in cheese or sauces. It's all Italian food, which really isn't friendly.
Can you take your boss aside and be candid about it? Perhaps you can take your lunch, and be there for the socialization and just order a drink? Eat your lunch before hand, just order water or iced tea when you arrive, and claim you aren't hungry?
Check out their menu online. If there is something you COULD eat if sauces were left off, etc, perhaps you could arrange for that, even calling them ahead if need be.
eta: they do have a soup, salad, and breadstick luncheon option - that might work for you depending on what your doctor allows you to have at this stage. They also have a "lo cal plate".
Good luck!
I don't blame you for not saying anything to your co-workers because like you I agree it's none of their business. I would definately check out the website and see what you can do towards a solution for lunch. I've also called a restaurant before hand and talked to a member of management to see what my options are...then passed the information on to the wait staff quietly of course.
Good luck honey! I'm sure you'll find something.
highest wgt/ day of surgery/ current wgt / goal wgt
52 lbs lost before surgery!!

I looked at their menu, and unfortunately you don't have a lot of options as early out as you are... the lo cal plate comes with cottage cheese, which you should be able to eat, but probably not much else. Soup would be a good option if they offer a soup that is on your list to eat.
When I was this early out and went to a restaurant I simply ordered a side of cottage cheese or mashed potatoes (no gravy). I've also been known to just order a glass of milk and drink that while everyone else eats.
On the bright side...we eat cheap at restaurants now, huh?!! I hope things work out for you...let us know how you do at your luncheon.
