I will be on the losers bench if all goes well.  Next Thursday at 8 am is my time.  Seems like I have waited forever and all the sudden it is here.  I am so excited but also having all those feeling like others I have read on here.  Excited, nervous, scared and looking at food thinking "can I give this up?"

Of course I have "friends" and family thinking I am crazy for having it done and all those that mention things like "must be nice to take the easy way out".  UGH  Even my brother who is about 34 BMI says all the time he wants to try to gain enough to qualify so it can do it easy like me.  I keep telling everyone this will not be easy but they don't understand.

I am going to have to be real careful that I do not complain or pain or discomfort or have trouble eating post op.  Lyn does not have near the pain tolerance I do and I do not want him to see me having problems cause without a doubt he will say---"Forget this---I am not doing it."  His is scheduled for the 27th.

Thanks to everyone for all their support here and I have learned so much from everyone.  I read every post on here.

How does this surgery angel work and exactly what is it?

THanks, Terry

You'll do great!  We're saving a seat for you.

As for the surgery angel, I can't answer that as I didn't have one.  I think it's someone that keeps us posted on how you're doing?

Terry, you will do great. I have had many people say that the surgery is the easy way out. I tell them to try it and then tell me what they think. That usually shuts them up. It's definately the most difficult thing I've ever done. Take your pain meds and you'll be fine. I only took the Lortab for 5 days because my pain wasn't bad enough to need it and feel so ditzy. My family laughed and said I said and did really funny things when I was taking it.

Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hey Terry good luck on Thursday I will be thinking of you! Are you going to be at St. V's Carmel? I can't remember. If I get a chance I will try to get by and see you. I can't promise anything but I will try. As far as pain went I really didn't have much so just don't worry about it and maybe yours won't be so bad either. Just a little tip they will have sugar free popsciles so ask for them. ALso see if you can't get some of the chicken bouillion to drink. It is a change from the juice and jello. Take care and if you need anything let me know! Michelle

Terry, I have found that if you follow Dr orders and the YELLOW SHEET you shouldnt have a lot to complain about.. I know there are exceptions ..but all in all I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The EASY way... there is no such thing... the rule is eat less move more... surgery helps us eat less so we can move more but there is no easy way.. It is hard sometimes... my mouth wants to taste the food... but I actually don't want it in my belly...  Some foods my belly/body needs but I don't want it in my mouth... Nope no easy way ... just a different way.

Best wishes for you and your surgery date and just thank God you have a great support system here to vent to when needed..

Hi there,
Terry, I'll be keeping you in my prayers for smooth surgery & quick recovery!! Remember, no matter what others think or say, it will be the beginning of your new healthy lifestyle ! I know what you mean with comments- but- you are doing this to add to your life!!

I am so grateful for this wonderful tool that has given me so many abilities I never had or lost, because of my morbid obesity. Let them say/think what they will. You KNOW why you are having this, & that is IS NOT the easy way out. Let them try living on 4-6 ozs. of food at a meal, drinking all that water & exercising. If it had been easy, we'd never have needed this life saving surgery in the first place, right?! As my Mom use to say- " pull up your big girl panties & get over it!"
I will be rooting for you girl!!! Tell Lyn we all believe he can do this too!! It isn't that painful & if it is - take those meds. I know I did!!!!

Good luck and we all will be scooting over to welcome you to the Losers Bench!!

I am so excited for you Terry.  You will be in all our thoughts and prayers for a safe and complication free surgery.
Isn't it odd how anyone could say this surgery is "easy".  How many of us would agree with that?  Not one I am sure.  This is a priviledge and life saving for some of us. I am sure that my diabetes would have started to do some permanent damage to my body very soon, had I not gotten this surgery.
Ask your brother if he is willing to risk his life to do what he said...?? Look at Bobbi who was struggling for her life since her surgery.  And look at all the things Sherri has had to go thru...almost dead herself.
Know that your choice is courageous!!!  And you will on the losers bench soon Terry!!!
Blessings to you all, Leah

Good Luck on the surgery next Thursday. I too, had Dr. Huse and I think he is the greatest, but everyone thinks their surgeon is the greatest no matter who the surgeon is. I did wonderful. I don't think I took ANY pain killers after I got home. I do remember while I was in the hospital that the nurses kept telling me to push the pain pump button and all that did was knock me out like a light bulb turned off. Dr. Huse came in a couple of different days and asked if I was going to sleep the day away. I could not help it, it had to be the pain meds because they finally changed what I was taking and I started staying awake more. The only problem I had was getting the gas to move through, I had such belly cramps from the gas. They got me some warm heat packs that helped along with the walking after I could stay awake. The first day is still a big BLUR!! After I started TOOTING (so to speak) I felt so much better. The only other problem I have had is one episode of a kinky bowel. Dr. Huse fixed that and life is as wonderful as I could ever expect it to be. Good Luck on Thursday!!!
