First I get a letter from my Primary Insurance (UHC) requesting additional information... Now I get a letter from my Secondary Insurance (BCBS of Alabama) denying coverage based on not enough documentation on BMI>35 for in excess of 3 years + No record of documented Physician monitored diet for 180 days or greater in the last year. My BMI is currently 57.4, the lowest it has been in the last 10 years is 49.8!! All covered in the application letter and in my PCP's files. Also covered was the Dr. Assisted with what amounted to 'Legal Speed' failure of a diet, followed by a rapid weight return... along with the new addition of GERD that followed the failure... I have got to calm down, then visit my PCP on Monday to find out what we missed... This is BS!! If their 'Medical Review Staff' had to walk on my Osteoarthritic Knees carrying my 57.4 BMI for a day, I would like to see how they felt about it then.... Obesity is an illness... treat it stand alone!! Do they make folks with a weak heart prove that they have tried to work out and strengthen their their heart muscle before they will allow surgery?? NO!! Obesity is no less of an illness than any other... stop treating it as if it is a choice, not an illness!! :VENT OFF: I really don't feel that much better, but jeez... This crap is getting old!!
