PCP not supportive
How important is it to have the support of your PCP? I have Blue Cross PPO (Calif.). I haven't been a patient of hers for too long-- my other Dr. quit his practice and she took over. So anyway, I don't have any real history with her. I do know that she is not supportive of WLS though. Should I change PCP, or just not worry about it?
Thanks!

I have BC/BS of Texas and I'm having to do a 6 month medically supervised diet/exercise program with my doctor. I guess it doesn't have to be your pcp, but it does have to be a physician. Mine plans on writing a letter to BC/BS at the end of my 6 months, detailing how I did, my co-morbidities, and that he totally supports me having the WLS.
If your pcp doesn't support WLS, then she probably won't do this for you. You need a doctor who is on your side! I'm not sure what your insurance prerequisites are, but if it requires a 6-month medically supervised diet/exercise program, then find a doctor who will do it for you, and at the end, support you.
Thanks for your response. I appreciate any info I can get!
Peace,

My PCP wasn't very supportive, either. She didn't even listen to what I had to say about it. So I DUMPED her like a bad habit! I don't have a PCP right now. I'm using my GYN for my 6 month diet and he's 100% behind my decision. As long as you're using a physician of any kind, and they're supportive, I don't think it matters if they're your PC*****t.
Remember, your pcp works for you. You are the boss. Your body, your health, your decision, not your pcp's. If you pcp is not behind you, go to your state's forum and ask someone in your city who their pcp is or if they know of any wls friendly pcp's. Don't waste precious time haggling with your pcp. The sooner you start your pre-cert diet, the better.
