External Appeal ??????

Hello everyone               I was denied by GHI/BCBS and my surgeons office has sent paperwork in fron an appeal.I'm still waiting to hear from them.I wanted to know more about the EXTENAL APPEAL process.How long does it take from the time you submit your paperwork to getting an approval if warranted.I just want to have every option available.Any information and past experiances would be great.
