Hi everyone! I'm new here and have my first question.... the 12 month requirement confused me a bit. I was wondering if it is 12 or 13 months...for instance, I started my 12 month  medically supervised diet in April 2006. On March 1, 2007, I will have had 12 appointments.... April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, and  March. To me, this is 12 months, but I am not sure if that is what the insurance company consideres 12 months, or if they really mean a 13 month diet, which would be April 2006 to April 2007.  What do you all think?  Thanks! My insurance (BC/BS PPO) requires a 6 months Dr. supervised diet, but I have to have 7 visits. My insurance doesn't count the first one, they count that one as a consultation to come up with a plan. then the next 6 are the monitored plan.

Chris is right...for you it would be 12 months but 13 visits.  The first visit is considered a consult.

Thanks guys! How about one more question...I have been going once a month, but not the same day every month, meaning that one month I may go on the 1st and the next I might go on the 21st. Has this posed a problem for anyone? I am wondering because I started going on April 24th, 2006. I have made my last appointment for April 2nd, 2007, and I am hoping that this is not going to be a problem for my insurance....My surgery date is April 27th. I have BC/BS of Michigan and they do not require preapproval...as long as I meet the reuirements and the doctor says it is medically necessary, then they cover it, but I don't want to screw up with the 12 month diet. i did call the insurance company today and they had no information for me...What do you think? Thanks! Danielle
