Help with appeal BCBS MN
OK so I work for BCBS and so I have their Ins. I have Been denied dur to not medically needed. I have sence proven my comorbidities of shortness of breath, joint pain, incontinence and maybe sleep apnea( I have the study tonight). I would like some help on putting together a letter for appeal and some encouragment from anyone that has been succesfull with an appeal. What documentation should I send and what should I put in the letter.
Thank you!
Since you work for them I would think you would have a hard copy of your policy, but just in case you don't you can find it here: http://notes.bluecrossmn.com/web/medpolman.nsf/8178b1c14b1e9 b6b8525624f0062fe9f/d2dadc81f23f3c3b862567fb00815660?OpenDoc ument I have BCBS of AL and I know that shortness of breath (in the absence of documented asthma), joint pain and incontinence are not considered co-morbidities. That's not to say that your doctor could not re-term your joint pain as degenerative joint disease, which is a co-morbidity. I hate to wish sleep apnea on you, but that may be your only viable medical necessity chance. Now...if your BMI is above 40 you don't have to worry about these, as you don't need a co-morbidity to qualify. Bascially your letter should contain as much medically researched back up as you can find for any of the reasons they might have denied you. They don't want to see as much personal information as they want to see research and verifications as to why you and your doctors feel that this surgery is medical indicated for you. Include any letters from your physicians that would back up your claim that the surgery is medically necessary. Make sure that you have followed all of the other requirements prior to submitting your appeal and mention all of the criteria you have met, in addition to your reasons for medical necessity. I'm sorry I don't have a copy of a letter for you, but hopefully someone else will have one. Good luck with your appeal.
