Aetna and proving 5 years of Obesity....
Hello all,
I was refferred to persue bariatric surgery as an option by my PCP. I meet the BMI requirements, have 2 co-morbidities and am currently on month 3 of my required 6 month supervised diet. However, I'm hitting a snag that I really can't find a way around.
I have been morbidly obese for 7 years. However, up until 2 years ago, I had -no- health insurance, and did not have any emergency room trips, etc to document my weight during that time.
I wrote to Aetna, and was politely informed that unless I can prove 5 years of weight issues, I am not eligible for assistance.
Any advice in this matter?

Asche, Did you go to the Dr. at all during this time? If you did, more than likely they recorded your weight. Have you done anything like Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig? I didnt have insurance up until 2 years ago either, but I did join the YMCA, Weigh****chers, Jenny Craig and saw a Dr. for medication.....all without insurance.
Hope you can find something.....
Kathy
