Approved with UHC in 9 days and on first submittal. They were awesome. I was told by my surgeons office that paperwork was submitted on the 3rd. when I call UHC to confirm acceptance a few days later, I found out that they did not have my paperwork. The guy at the insurance company got my surgeon's phone number, put me on hold and called them, only to find out that I had been lied to. They had not submitted my paperwork yet so he (the insurance guy) requested it and was told that it would be sent to him that day. This was lie number two because he called me the next day and told me that he had called again and left voicemail message for coordinator at dr office to call him back. Anyway after 3rd phone call to dr office from UHC rep. they finally got my paperwork. Then 9 days later, I had approval .  I think that Marjean, (ins. rep) went out of his way to help me and most insurance companies will not do that. I felt good about it after that because I felt they were on my side.   Thanks to my insurance rep, Marjean, and UHC, I am on my way to surgery in 1 1/2 weeks.

Congratulations on your approval!  That is awesome!  I hope that when I submit my stuff to UHC it goes quickly too.   I will be submitting my paperwork in 2-3 weeks.  I have already talked to care coordination to let them know that paperwork will be coming soon.   I meet all their qualifiations and have 9 years of doctors records, so I am confident that I will get approved...that and I have prayed for this more than I have prayed for anyting else in my life!

Took 3 days for UHC to approve me - my surgery is in 8 days on the 6th of March.

did you all have to do the dr supervised diet for 6 months? I talked to someone at my work that had RNY last year and didn't have to, but i've heard UHC changed requirements in 2007. I will be starting the WLS process in March!  Congrats to you all and I hope my preapproval goes so smoothly!

Yes, UHC required 6 month supervised weight loss attempt for approval.
