Insurance won't cover me....what happens if something REALLY bad happens????

I'm just wondering the insurance company (Blue Cross/Blue Shield Tennessee) says they won't pay for anything related to Obesity or Morbid Obesity. I called a few times and they said it isn't due to their decision, it's because my husband's HR didn't negotiate for it, that his company decided to leave obesity treatments out of the plan (probably to get lower rates). My question is what happens if (god forbid) it becomes a matter of life or death, is it still NO? I am beginning to feel less than perfect, aching back, sore knees, is there nothing I can do or say that will show them how much they will save in the long run by covering the surgery????

In most cases if it is a policy exclusion it doesnt matter if it comes to life or death they will fix whatever comes as a result of the weight not aprove you for wls.

Browse the links on the left side, the one on private insurance, and also the avoiding denials sections. Self funded plans are very tough to work with.  You need to see if they made an exception for someone else which is a no no. Or, work with you HR department on makings a change that will help you and save them money in the long run.

I will look into it. I am a stay at home mom/student and its my husband's insurance. I will suggest he speaks with his HR, however I am not sure how comfortable I feel with going that route. As I posted elsewhere if it's meants for me, it will be. Thank you for the information :)!
