Giving up!
I just got the 3rd denial today. This one was from my Surgeon calling Aetna! The man hung up on my surgeon. I guess I need to be severally obese for 5 years. I have not. I know I will be for 5 more years but I guess I have to wait till I get worse and sick to be able to start my life again. They have told me to contact a lawyer, but I can't afford it! I have been going through this for about 9-10 months and I am currently paying for $2,500 worth of medical bills that Tricare, our old insurance, wouldnt cover. I am so frustrated and just drained. I just feel sick. I feel that not eating is the answer now.
Sorry, for the vent!

I am so sorry to hear this....I think that 5 year rule is horrible, here let me get fat enough for the next 5 years and in the meantime keep getting sicker and sicker, heavier and heavier. UHC has that rule also for a lot of their contracts and I think it is just wrong. I am sorry you have to give up your long battle with the insurance.

Hanging up on your surgeon is so unprofessional and so common. Read the post above on peer review.
In the meantime, find out if you have any appeals left, or whether you can appeal to an external agency.
(then message me. Let's get that tricare stuff paid for and get this new carrier to cover this surgery)
(no charge. we don't know if you have any options left, but we'll try)
Best of luck.
