My insurance is Aetna USHealthcare and I am nervous. I have had Aetna for 10 years and do not have any gripes about them... However, I have heard from my surgeon and others that Aetna makes it difficult for patients to have the surgery. I am really nervous about this being that I have a BMI of about 48. Can anyone tell me more about Aetna and their policies. Was it truly difficult to get approved? How long did they take to approve you? What were their requirements? If you didn't have all the requirements in place, did you still get approved and how? Anything else you can contribute would be extremely appreciated... Thanks.

Yasmin, I really don't have anything good to say about Aetna. I was denied but I have a BMI of just about 40 with no comorbs, well, to them I have none. I have a list of things, but none are good enough or I should say bad enought YET! It sound to me, through the post that I have read that someone with a BMI over 40 and a comorb really have no problems. I think you have a good shot. I wish I could say the same for me.
Keep your head up, it is a long road, but if you have a good outcome then it is WELL worth it!!!

I have Aetna PPO. They require a 3-6 month supervised diet before they will consider approval. I will complete my 3 month diet on Saturday. I heard after all your paperwork is in that is only takes about a week for approval.. Just make sure your doctors office has all the required paperwork before they send it in.
Good luck
