I am 30 YO and had RNY on 7/17/2006 I will be loosing my job on June 1st so I will only have insurance until the end of June.  I haven't had any problems at all since RNY I hit below my goal in 9 months.  I currently carry the insurance for my family.  I can get them all covered relatively reasonable but I'm the problem would it be wrong to not disclose it or do they look?  My primary Dr doesn't even know I had it done but I didn't know if they go through my current insurance coverage and check claims????  I know its wrong to lie but I'm afraid of what ifs.  I am going to be a stay at home mom.  We live in such a rural area that anywhere we go to work you drive at least 45 minutes and I would be lucky to make $10/hour and I have to pay $280/week in childcare which is more than I make.  I plan on babysitting at home to make some money but I can't find any coverage for me.  What would you do?

You can lie and get the policy but if anything happens and it comes to light that you had major surgery that you didn't disclose they will definitely cancel your policy immediately and will refuse to pay for any procedures you may need.  I'm not sure, but I do believe I had an ex-friend who was an insurance agent tell me once that one of his clients didn't disclose stomach cancer surgery and when she came out of remission and the insurance company found out about it, they canceled her insurance immediately and even tried to take her to court to reclaim what they had already paid out because of "insurance fraud."  You might want to get some expert advice on this one, especially since your family will be involved on the policy as well, just in case.

Insurance fraud is never a good idea. You are risking jail time as well as monetary settlements if caught. It is not worth it.

No,  i would not commit insurance fraud, it's not worth risking jail time and leaving your kids.

I wouldn't lie about. Lying will just cause more problems. Here is a fun little fact though- I don't think insurance companies can exclude you or deny you a policy if you have coverage at the time that you are applying. it's like a pre-exsiting condition claus. Ask Gary Visio- he should know more about this. But I think if you have insurance and it's being covered-it can't be excluded on your new policy. BTW, try united health care Golden Rule policy. It's decent.
