HELP HELP Medical Records Fees
I was told by the care coordinator at my surgeons office that in the stae of FL they cannot charge you for copies of your medical records if it is for continuity of care. Meanwhile my doctors office which is just 1 of many charged me $92 dollars for copies. We got into a big argument I had a copy of the FL statue that said they couldn't , she had some paper that said they could I am stuck I still need many many many more records and cannot afford to pay all these random charges. Does anyone know anything about this. Thank you
I was told that same thing by my coordinator. I sent my wife to pick up a copy of my sleep study and they were going to charge me $1 per page. I asked if they could fax it to me - she said sure, but we will still charge you $1 per page. Finally I had them fax it directly to the insurance comany and it didn't cost me a thing? Go Figure.
Good morning,
Your doctor's office cannot charge for medical records if they are sending it directly to an insurance company or another doctor. Most physician's have a copy fee if you are having the records sent directly to you. In any situation $92 is just ridiculous. All of my doctor's charge $1 per page up to $25, but gladly sent my information directly to my surgeon at no cost.
They may require that the surgeon's office request the documents, but go for it if it saves you money.
Good luck.
