Ok, We are currently trying to get our insurance issues worked out, here is the difference how the medical certificate of coverage read in March and how it reads now in regards to exclusions. Can anyone tell me what the difference is here? Any help would be great.
Thanks
This is what it used to say:For any treatment or regimen, medical or surgical, for the purpose of reducing or controlling the weight of a member or for treatment of obesity, except for surgical treatment of morbid obesity
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is what it says now:Weight loss programs wheather or not they are under medical supervision. Weight loss programs for medical reasons are also excluded.
It looks like WLS is covered in both instances above. The first one looks like they won't cover any weight loss programs (like Weigh****chers or Jenny Craig). The wording sounds like they'll cover WLS provided you're morbidly obese; however WLS would not be covered if you're just obese.
The second one doesn't mention WLS. They're just specifying that they don't cover Weigh****chers or any other program for weight loss. If you don't have a WLS exclusion then you probably have coverage for it. Of course, you'll have to meet the medical necessity guidelines set by your insurance provider.
This is just the way I read it. You should probably hold out for Gary or Paul to answer. Those guys know everything. Since it's Friday night I thought I'd offer my 2 cents in hopes of putting you at ease over the weekend.
Good luck.
