BC/BS Five year BMI of 40+
Ok, so I have BCBS of Arizona. I was reading their their qualifications chart and it states that I must have a BMI of over 40 for at least 5 years. Well I have a BMI of 43 now- but 3 years ago I was only at like 38 or so. I do have one co-mordity that I was recently diagnosed with- Sleep Apnea. My dr recommended the surgery to help the sleep apnea. Will having the co-morbity diagnoses help me since I was not at 40 BMI for the last 5 years? I just can't stand the thought of having to wait 5 years for surgery because I didn't gain more weight until the last 2 years.
Thanks,
Nicole
Gary,
I have BC/BS of NJ. I called my college and graduate school's (same university) Health Center, they said my record was shredded a few months ago (10 yrs since last used them). In then least 10 yrs I have been obese, but not morbidly obese, because I was constantly dieting. Also in the last few yrs, had a significant weight loss due to a spinal cord injury, but have put all that weight back on. I am now back up to just over 35 BMI with HTN, apnea, and other comorbids.
How do I prove the 5 yrs when I was over 40 BMI if the records were shredded? I don't have any other "weighins" and only 1 picture. Or am I SOL?
Also, for the 5 yr history, do they consider a BMI of 35 with comorbids in the past the same as a BMI of 40 for "morbidly obese?"
Thanks for all the work you do in helping us!!!
