I am a self pay LapBand and am waiting for the office to schedule me to see the cardiologist and Pulmonologist.  Is there any way to get insurance to cover those doctors visits and tests? Like maybe if i had my primary order them. Thanks for any advice.   Mollie

i dont see why not. i am pre-op and have had 2 sleep studies, an endoscopy, an EKG an echocardiogram, a nuclear stress test, tons of blood work and two 2 hr glucose tolerance tests all paid for by my insurance company and nothing has been submitted to them as of yet for precertification for the gastric bypass.  they've already started paying for these claims and will also pay for my CPAP machine for the sleep apnea. sure, as long as your doc orders the tests and there is no approval needed from your insurance for certain procedures then i dont see why not?

It is all about the diagnosis they use for the medical claim form.  I used to work for 2 insurance companies and its all about diagnosis, especially if your plan excludes any type of treatment for obesity.  If your primary care dr/cardiologist/pulmon. will/can use a different one that doesnt have anything to do with obesity then your set.  I'm pretty sure they can use the obesity dx as a secondary if they wanted to but not as the prime.. Just to be safe I would have them exclude it totally.. Some dr's won't do it because they consider it "fraudulent" but I'm sure they can think of some kind of reason for the testing.
