Insurance switching
HI
I recently just started the process of getting WLS. Process meaning I’ve discussed it with my family and they feel that it is the best thing for me to do since I have a BMI of 44.6-46 high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and starting to develop back pains. Just starting this process I’ve started to run into road blocks with insurance and my family doctor. I called to schedule a appointment with my doctor and she’s only available in late September I called back in July. I love my doctor I’ve had her for the last 2 years but every time I go for an appointment the weight time is at least 2 hours after my scheduled appointment, I’m concerned that I will not get the right attention during my process of WLS. SO I’ve been debating changing doctors which I’m not sure is a good idea? The other road block that I’ve encountered is my insurance which is covered by my moms work place which is ugh cigna. My mother’s work place has great coverage but has a history of insurance switching within the last 2 years, it’s been blue cross/blue shield, Aetna and at lest 3 different other carriers. I’m starting to look into Medicare for myself, but I’m not sure if I’ll be approved since I’m a college student and still living at home. I haven’t really even started the physical paper work process but I’m starting to get road blocks. Does anyone know what Medicare covers for WLS? And is there a supervised diet before? I’m afraid if I switch doctors I’ll have to start all over again. Thanks, in advance
Kim
