Open Enrollment - what do you think?
It's open enrollment time and my company offers both BCBS and United Healthcare. I've already had my surgery and as I've had insurance continuously, there's no pre-existing condition implications.... I'm thinking of switching from BCBS to UHC...need opinions to see if I am thinking this through????
I don't foresee trying to have any PS covered.
Here's the deal: UHC premiums are $384 a year LESS than BCBS. Coverage on UHC is better if I ever have to be hospitalized or have home health care. With BCBS, it's 90% with a maximum out of pocket of $1200. With UHC, it's 100% covered.
So, while I had heard it was easier to get approval and have surgery with BCBS....that is now done...though it cost me $1200 instead of the $0 on UHC.... it was easily approved.
But for ongoing coverage and if I had complications and had to be hospitalized some time in the next year, will be less expensive with UHC.
What do you think? Does it make "sense" to switch??? It certainly makes financial sense. What am I missing?
You have covered most of the basics of what to regard when considering changing your health insurance, so that's a good thing. As long as there are no pre-existing clauses to be considered, then you can definitely take a look at what option is going to be cheaper for you while maintaining a good standard of care.
I have personally worked with UnitedHealthcare and Blue Cross, and, looking from the inside, I think UnitedHealthcare operates better, but others might have other opinions.
I hope I was able to assist you.
