Tell me how this would make you feel...

After alot of tests and paperwork my MD office finally sends in my pre-auth to the insurance company.  So I wait about a week and call them and say, "So how's it going?".  Insurance lady tells me I have great insurance and that she isn't worried about my approval and that I should just concentrate on my pre-op testing.  I still tell her it would really make me feel better if she could call me with the formal "Yes" when it comes.  So I wait another week (standard for BCBS is two weeks) and ask again.  She says she will call them; I call her again later and she says they told her it went through the review board okay and is now on the head doctor's desk awaiting the final signature.  She also says they don't tell her anymore unless it is not okay.  I ask her if she can call me and leave a message when the final signature is done and she acts like I am being silly.  But isn't it normal to want to know for sure?  She wants me to just relax, she assures me it's going to happen and says they have never sent someone to surgery without approval.  But I know for a fact that before surgery I will have to sign something stating I will pay whatever my insurance doesn't and I just want the reassurance before then.  I want to celebrate my approval like everyone else, so is there anyway to find out for sure?  I looked it up on my insurance website and they only list claims after the date of service has passed.  So should I be peeved or am I just being too anal? /  /  / ????

I know, I know, you are probably right.  I'm trying not to be selfish.  I guess it's just freaking me out because my surgery date is the 16th (the one that's 10 days away!), and I have already taken off work and everything for this.  If it falls through my shifts are already given away so I have to take the time off anyway and I wouldn't be able to earn enough vacation time to just put it off for a few weeks and do it then.  Do you know if there is a way we can call our insurance  companies ourselves?  I tried and the help lady could only look up claims that have been processed.  Thanks for the support though, I know I'm being way too OCD about this but I'm the worst Type A personality I know!
