UHC with a morbid obesity rider

I am a small business owner. All insurances I've looked at will not cover WLS by themselves. I did find UHC with a morbid obesity rider that will cover surgery (very expensive addition). Has anyone used this and, if so, what experience did you have? I've got good insurance now that will cover visits and consultations with the specialties that are required by the WLS surgeon I am looking at and was planning on switching before the surgery due to the nearly tripled premium that I will be paying. Thank you for your help!

Hi Lantor-   I have UHC and began my journey in April of this year. Sorry to say I am still "playing games" with them to get my surgery approved. If your BMI is 40 or above, you may have an easier time? Their co-morbidity requirements are ridiculous!  Best Wishes!

Hello and Congrats to you hun. I need to ask.. who did you speak to, to get the rider? I have UHC in Wisconsin and WLS isnt covered on my policy. Your right, they don't have any policys for small business owners that cover it. I've been trying to find a way for it to be covered on our policy. Can you tell me who I need to speak it at UHC? or was it through your employer?  Many Thanks

My business partner found it through an insurance broker in Georgia.  It was the only one of its kind that she could find.  I would offer the name and number of the broker here, but I don't know if they can do things across state lines.  My partner is out of the office this morning, but if I find out any more specific details or hoops we had to jump through for this policy, I will gladly share them.  Good luck in your journey!
