I have UHC as my Primary insurance and HIP Prime as my secondary.  I have taken all my test, done everything i need to do post-op and never once until i called the surgeons office 2 weeks ago did the girl that does the insurance approvals tell me that i need a 6 month diet.  She said that is what UHC requires.   I called UHC and they said they do not require the 6 month diet.  I also have a co-worker who had her surgery in June and has UHC and she didn't need the diet.  I am so confused because this will mean that i have to start all over again.    I have been call the number on my insurance card is there another number that i could call to get the correct information.  I fell like i'm going to lose my mind.  Racheal

I guess it probably depends on your actual policy, but I have UHC and am not required to do a 6 month diet.  The number on your insurance card is your best bet for accurate information.

thanks.  i have called the number on my card and they tell me i do not need the diet, but the surgeons office says i do.  i just don't know what to do anymore.

My advice to you: Tell your surgeon's office that you prefer to have the information sent WITHOUT the documentation of the diet. If they do end up requiring it, tell them you will complete the diet and appeal after 6 months.  I'm pretty sure UHC is across the board (unless it's a self funded policy) and your surgeon's office is incorrect.

Thanks.  That is what i told them to do just send in the paperwork.  The lady that is in charge of getting the approvals, just seems like she doesn't want to do it.  She told me well i will submit your information but they will deny you.  So she sent it in i'm just waiting to hear what happened.

Is the surgeon's office telling you that you need the diet?  That's what it sounds like to me...if possible, change surgeons

Thanks.  that's what i'm thinking of doing changing the surgeon, i just didn't want to start over.  but i have a co worker that had the surgery in June and we have th some insurance but different surgeons and she didn't have to do the diet.
