I'm new here and have been thinking about this surgery for years. I'm ready. My problem is that I do not have comorbidities (that Aetna considers), and my BMI is a 38-39...My question...Has anyone had luck or even heard of being approved w/out a mbi of 40? I don't know what to do other than gain weight. Ideas? Thanks.

Well I know most surgeons wont even consider you if you don't have a bmi of 40 or over. Call a sergeon in your area. But I dont think there will be a good chance of being approved by your insurance if you have a lower bmi and no Comorbidities.

quarters in your pocket when you get weighed in?? I would say, you probably have some co-morb, anything, that is really a co-morb but they dont consider it so.  And Aetna is usually pretty forgiving Gary

Really? If Atena is forgiving a tinsy bit then I think I'm good. I think my PCP could write a good letter--I'm in good health, and this surgery Would really make a difference (not that it doesn't with others!)... Still, I'm ready for 10 dollars in my pocket at weigh in, but I haven't been to a surgeon's office yet....(I don't know if they weigh you with a gown on!). Thank you for the advice and congratulations--you look great. ~jdk
