Cigna Denial
I have Cigna Health Insurance and I wanted to know if there was anyone that had been denied by tehm but had everything they wanted? I have checked off everything they have asked for and made sure my I's are dotted and T's crossed but I am still a bit nervous. I have heared the horror stories but usually it is because that person didnt do all that was required, their BMI was either border line or they were even at the BMI to have the surgery or it was before 2005 and since then they have relaxed their standards. So I guess what I am wondering is if anyone has been denied by them after all things were done and if so why?

I was not "denied" but basically told they could not approve based on not having nutritionist report. Which I knew was sent in late anyway. After they received that I was approved next day. Are you saying you were denied or just preparing for the worst? I am in the process with them waiting on approval(hopefully) for plastics. I was preparing for the worst for the gastric approval with them but went very smooth to my suprise. I believe it is all up to what your employer has contracted with them. By the way my BMI was 40 but had diabetes, high cholestrol, apnea,etc...
No I just am preparing myself for the worst. I believe I have everything I need, I will be done with my six month diet on Monday, I have been using the checklist provided here to have my doc sign off on every month. I see the nutritionist tomorrow, I saw the shrink yesterday and do my pre-op blood work up on Monday. So I should be good to go. Oh I will be having my OBGYN fax over my history so that I have the year at over 40 BMI proof that they require. I just try to eliminate surprises.

Sounds like you are on top of it...best advice always stay on top of them by phone to make sure they received all the info from surgeon for approval...and keep in touch with them in case anything else they want also. I found it saves valuable time if i know asap if i need to get more to them fast. i never relied on the surgeons office to stay on top of them. Most offices are busy and some like my plastic surgeons office don't care to follow up. My plastic surgery request sat in the wrong department for a week unecessarily and was moved to the right department only after I called....Good luck to you and spend this valuable time waiting for your APPROVAL by getting yourself "mentally" ready for your surgery. Stay positive and if you are denied it just means you will be approved with your first appeal. Good luck to you, I wish you the best!!
Yeah you're right I just find awefully hard to NOT worry. But I will try to. I mean if something is going to go wrong it will and there is nothing I can do right? But I try and focus on positive stuff and believe I will get approved first time out. Thanks a bunch!

There is a girl on my page (westvalley) who use to work for cigna and just recently left. She knows all the ins and outs of this. From my experience sometimes insurance companies deny almost like protocol. They deny to just deny then approve the appeal. I do feel though, you will be approved first time around or at worst, second. You will get it my friend.
