I have BCBS Texas.  They require a 5 year history and I did NOT see a doctor in 2007.  Can anyone share their experience with BCBS Texas with me or if you have another company and were missing a year of history.

Thanks,
Amy

Amy,

I have BCBS of New Jersey (although I live in TX).  My BCBS updated their requirements as of 8/11/08 and it they no longer require the 5 year weight history.  Go to your companies website and search for Surgery for Morbid Obesity in the Policy Manual.  They may have a section with a list of updates.

Did you see any other doctor during 2007?  (an allergist, gynecologist, etc... or participate with a weight loss program like Weigh****chers that might have a weight on file).

Good luck!

I have bcbstx and I just spoke with the ins. coordinator at my surgeon's office yesterday about this. I don't have a dr. documented weight for 2006 - he said we have 2004, 2005, no 2006, but we have 2007 and 2008 - he said we can use the years we have and then use a picture for the 2006 year we are missing. he said we can write a date on it, but I found one that was taken with a digi camera that has the date printed on the pic. check with your surgeon's office, but that is what we are doing.
