I have Kaiser, HMO in Georgia. I was blessed because despite the fact I was told Kaiser HMO DOES NOT cover WLS, I have recently completed all of the pre-surgery steps for approval. I received my denial letter in May, 2005. PLEASE, share if you have information on Kaiser's stand regarding WLS. Is there anyone who is getting through to them to consider the health benefits of covering the surgery? I have letters of support from my home doctor (High Blood Pressure-Atenonol 100mg, Lisonopril 2 pills, Diltia & for water retention-HCTZ/Triamethrene 1/2 pill, Low Potassium-K-Tab 8 pills, Sleep Disorder-Provigil-11/2pills, my Neurologist (MS-Avonex weekly injection). I KNOW WLS would decrease my need for SOOOOO many pills. I Need Help, 47 with a BMI 49.5. I am considering changing insurance carriers, but I get cautioned because I of the MS diagnosis and getting approval for the meds was a long process. Would hate to have to start over.
