Is Bariatric Surgery Considered A Weight Loss "Program"?

This is what happened to me. BCBS of Il paid my surgeon and now took the money back so I'm having to fight them as I had to pay out of pocket to my surgeon. I got a nice letter stating I was approved and then suddenly they say my husbands company don't cover WLS. Donna 338/178

I also have United Healthcare Choice Plus through my husband's employer and when I called to see if the Lapband procedure was covered, I was told that it wasn't (NOTHING related to weight loss was covered) but I am coming to realize that is because my husband's COMPANY excluded it, not United Healthcare. I HATE my husbands company. So, you are right, some companys are TOO CHEAP to offer help and hope to their employees and their families. I haven't even met with a surgeon yet although I am going to attend a free seminar about the Lapband. I'm hesitant to schedule an appointment just knowing that I will be denied.

I have UHC and was told it was excluded, but if you have comorbs that your insurance does cover. Then you may argue that the surgery isn't for WLS, but for your other conditions.
