Colouring hair before surgery?
I'm looking to give myself a bit of a lift before surgery.
To that end I am cutting my long hair off and donating it to Locks of Love. I figure if there is a chance that my hair might thin I'd rather loose the long hair at a time and manner of my own choosing.
But I was also thinking of colouring it. And I was wondering if anyone knows of any reasons why I shouldn't or can't colour my hair two weeks before surgery?

Although it's a great thing to do by donating your hair, don't be so quick for such a drastic change.
The only reason you hair would fall out or thin is if you don't get the proper amount of protein. That can happen w/or w/out the band.
I'm no expert, but I think the only time they don't recommend hair dyeing is when you are pregnant due to all the chemical changes.
Hope this helps.
I'm also thinking that shorter hair will be good for a couple other reasons.
#1 - I'm sick of fighting with tangles and dealing with it.
#2 - Post surgery it seems like it will be easier to take care of.
#3 - While I'm travelling in March it seems like shorter hair in the rain forests of Costa Rica would be a good thing. Especially since I have wavy hair that gets frizzy in humidity.
So it's sort of a combo thing.
I've also been thinking of cutting it for a couple of months. So I figure I'll just do it! It's only hair and it will grow back.
It always has in the past.

According to their website they'll take coloured hair but not bleached hair.
But I'm planning to get the cut first and then figure out what colour goes best with the sytle!
Not to mention the fact that it will be a lot less work and expense to colour chin lengh hair than hair that is down to the middle of my back!

Color gives you LOTS of volume. I love my stylist. She cuts my hair and "texturizes" it so it is a full as possible and then I get a weave which makes it pop up even more.
I am SURE there are stylists on this board. I swaer, one good stylist is worth more than many psychiatists!!!!! When I finally admitted to myself I was NOT 29 but 49, I switched to a lady who does hair for more "mature" ladies and let me tell you, they don't miss a TRICK to make the most of your hair.
