Heartburn? Anyone?

Hey guys over a year ago I delt with heartburn on a normal occurance. Since being banded almost a year ago I did not have any problems except for the last month. I find myself eating TUMS more and taking something to ease the heartburn. I was curious if anyone else deals with this also? Is this ALWAYS a sign of possible band slippage? I know I am not too tight at all. In fact I am going in for a fill on Wednesday. Is this something I should be worried about? Please let me know what you think. I have my year appointment this week and want to be prepared with questions if so. Thanks, Lisa

First of all, never (NEVER) (NEVER!! ) get more fill when you are having any trouble! especially heartburn, which is a seious problem. You need a fluoro to evaluate the band, pouch, and esophagus, and likely an unfill and medication to heal and rest. Simply covering the problem up with Tums is very dangerous, and can cause big problems. Tums is not even a good medication, and the damage is continuing. Please never try to ignore reflux - it causes all kind of damage to the esophagus, pouch, mouth, sinuses, ears, and more. It is a sign something is wrong - not necessarily something big - but it must always be quickly checked out. Sandy R
