Why is salad/lettuce not recommended?
I have a salad with grilled chicken at least twice a week. Although I, too, grew up on iceberg lettuce, I never buy it anymore. I like to make an arugula pesto sauce to put over chicken...very easy. Throw a bag of arugula into the food processor with a clove or two of garlic. Drizzle in a little bit of extra virgin olive oil. After you remove it from the processor, toss in a little bit of grated romano cheese. Also good tossed with whole wheat pasta.
One of my favorite veggies is fresh baby spinach sautees in a little bit of olive oil and chopped garlic.
I am amazed by how much healthier I am eating these days, but more importantly, how much I'm actually enjoying eating healthier!

I'm afraid salads really have no nutritional value. Iceberg lettuce is useless - and even the other lettuces only have a tiny bit more nutrition.
Since we have such small pouches, we need to use them for only ythe very highest nutrition most of the time.
all the lettuces are really just useless fillers - mostly water, next-to-no nutrition, don't keep us full.
However, I often order a Chef salad when I'm out - and eat all the meat, egg, cheese, and good veggies - and then, if there is room, a few bites of the lettuce/spinach/whatever.
We all thought salads were good diet food - but they really are not, expecially with the Band when we need to fill our pouches well with mostly-solid protein for the Band to work for us.

I love salads so I knwo what you mean. For me I've found that the ice berg works ok if I cut it into shreds to make the salad from. Also, using raw baby spinach works sometimes too.
Its sort of a crap shot though-one day it goes down ok, one day it gets stuck. I do find that its better to try to eat the greens for dinner instead of lunch or breakfast becuase i'[m a bit more open then.
