New Bandster--Port Incision a Little Icky??

Hi all, I haven't really posted here (am more active on my state forum) but have been reading. :) I was banded a week ago yesterday. Everything is fine, I'm feeling great, except for my larger incision--the port incision--is leaking. Just one small section of the incision, not the whole thing--probably about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. It's not oozing pus, but a clear to pink liquid with a tinge of blood now and then. I've been changing these large gauze bandages twice a day. It doesn't hurt, burn, or itch (well, it itches a little!). SHould I be concerned?  I think it's too early to call my doc. I'm hoping maybe this is normal since the port area is the largest incision and maybe it just takes the longest to heal. Thanks in advance for any help/insight. :) Trace

As always, you want to let your doc know what's going on, but I pretty much had the same thing. Freaked out a bit, and made an appointment to have it checked. They looked at it, told me to put bacitracin on it, stuck a clean band-aid on it and sent me home. My other incisions healed closed fairly quickly, but I'm 5 weeks out and my port incision is 'almost' healed.

The incisions will "drain" a little.  What your describing is the same as I had three years ago.  The incision is healing.  If you start getting pain or yellow, green discharge then I would call your doctor.  The port incision does take longer to heal.

Trace, I would call your doctor immediately.  I just got my band on the 23rd and my discharge instructions were to call immediately if there was any discharge or draining from my incision.  Its probably okay, but I wouldn't mess around.  Good luck.  Mumma

my mom is three months out and her port incision started leaking at one week out. after several rounds of antibiotic she still would not stop leaking. she went to a wound specialist  and found out it was a resistant staph infection. she is on more antibiotic and is placing antibiotic strips directly in her wound. she may have to have her port removed. i hope not, shes worked so hard.  i recomend that you dont wait, get a culture and good luck! the message board has been alot of help in giving us advice on what to do.

Hi,  I had the same thing... They called it a seroma... My doctor gave me antibiotics and it healed in a week.  I remember the same thing you are going through, gauze pads, the pinkish discharge.. It really freaked me out.. I would atleast call the doctor for your own peace of mind.. Take care.

Joy

Thanks so much to everyone *****sponsed. Odd that most of you are in my "region'! Small world. :-) Your comments made me feel a lot better, and I think I will call my doc tomorrow just to be sure. Hopefully it's not staph, like some ppl get. Thanks again. Trace
