Hiccups, although embarrassing, were my signal to stop eating. Well, now I'm getting hicccups after the first bite. What's with this? I'm not PB'ing or sliming, at least not yet, but I start on the first bite (of good food...my protein) with hiccups. It doesn't matter what I eat, they are right there. HELP...I'm going to my son-in-law's mother's house for Thanksgiving and I'm about to back out. These are embarrassing and I don't know why this is happening. I can drink anything with no problem, but eating is embarrassing. I can still continue to eat...and hiccup all the way through....pretty bad when you have to eat between the hiccups.
I'm chewing well and eating slowly.
Sounds like first-bite syndrome to me. I still do that sometimes...last night, in fact! I took a couple of bites and BOOM! Hiccups. No way I could be full...so I give it a moment (three hiccups is par for the course) and then I continue to eat. You may HAVE to sip some water. I do a few deep breaths and kind of try to catch a hiccup in progress and hold my breath. Works like a charm.

Thanks Bridget,
I thought about taking a sip of water and then I stop myself (guess I was told by someone not too...not to drink with meals), but I'm going to try it. Thanks for replying. I don't intend to hiccup all though dinner on Thanksgiving :) I'll also try holding my breath to see if they pass. Hope it works.

Between the hiccups and the gurgling sounds I feel like I haver a 10 piece orchestra going on here.
I'm sure Ill be amusing for the holidays.

I would love hiccups, instead I was blessed with sneezing. Everyone who knows me well, knows if I start sneezing that it will pass soon and they dont have to bless me 15x lol. I am 2 1/2 years post op and still "sneeze" with meals at least 3x a week. The sneeze comes from my chest not my nose it's so weird but I was told this was my lovely signal. Karianne

Well you are blessed also. (no pun intended) We would make a terrific pair.
