So Tuesday is my big day and so far I've been running like a chicken without head trying to prepare everything, bet you guys know what it's like. Before the surgery my doctor said I need to be on liquid diet for two days, and then clear liquids for seven days after. I thought seven days - no big deal but today is the first day and I am two inches from licking a jar of mustard - and I hate mustard. So tomorrow is my last chance to go to the store and prepare - but what? I have - lots of jello - already made and some packages for later, - fudgesicles, - fresh pressed apple and orange juice (but are they clear?! can't see much through them), - ff milk, - chicken soup, - crystal light popsicles, and that's it. so what else would you guys recommend? thanks in advance :)

I was allowed Gatorade and it really helped!

Basia, my day is tuesday as well and I wanted to wish you luck.   No fudgesicles on clear liquids no milk on clears either orange juice is okay but only pulp free and maybe a little thinned buy some broth, I am making a large thermos of weilers chicken and herb broth for tomorrow at work.  The beef broth is good too, kinda like having french onion soup. you can also have italian icees which are really yummy. Luigis makes a sugar free italian icee Good luck and let me know how you do!

Also my doc said no gatorade because of the sugar content, but you have got to go by your docs rules.

If it's liquid at room temperature, and you can see through it, it's a clear liquid.  (ie popsicles, but not fudgesicles).  Stuff like juice, broth, popsicles, etc.  Your Dr. oughta give you a list of what he allows/disallows.  Good luck on your surgery, and hurry back to let us know how it went.

My favorite thing while I was on clears was strained wonton soup.  When I told them I wanted "broth only" because I was recovering from surgery, they gave me two containers for the price of one.   Good luck on your surgery!  I know you must be excited. Tami

Wow, I can't believe how different all these doctors are for the rules before surgery. I have to go on a 7 day liquid diet before surgery. Low carb, high protein. I'll be drinking many Atkins Shakes and Whey Protein shakes from GNC. I can also have broth, popsicles, anything non-carbinated, non caffeine. I just can't go over 50 carbohydrates, 60-70 protein. After surgery, it's anthing that starts off as a liquid for 2 weeks. But, I'm going to try to be good and not do anything drastic like a milkshake  Then, 2 weeks of mushies.  Anyone else have this diet???

No fudgesicles, o.j. or milk on clears for me, but I was allowed protein shakes like Ensure.  There are many good juices, like 100% cranberry/raspberry, pomegranate/cherry.  All I really wanted after surgery were broth (warm and comforting) and popsicles (crunchy and cool). I got a very detailed diet from the nutritionist.  If you didn't get one, I'd ask.  Good luck

Thanks! My visit with the nutritionist was awful, see I am a self-pay but my doctor suggested I'd go and see one and he gave me a list to choose from, I chose one based on her website and close by, the minute she found out I am a self-pay she was trying to convince me to come to her on monthly basis instead of the surgery, she gave me a list of stuff to eat and diet instead of what to eat after the surgery and every time i tried to ask her she was dismissing me and getting on her soapbox going on about the evil surgery. So that did not go well and I really didn't feel like complaining to the doctor which I should have done. I am going to email my doctor tonight and see what he suggests, I also asked me husband to ask when he sees the doctor so I should be fine, the husbandly person is awesome at doing groceries :)

I'd definitely let your team know that that nutritionist is not supportive of surgery, so that she can be taken off the list that your team hands out. Donna B.
