Everyone knows that Liz Hurley quote about KILLING HERSELF if she was as "FAT AS MARILYN MONROE"... Well... Marilyn Monroe was all of 5 feet 5.5 inches tall, and she weighed 140 pounds. MARILYN MONROE'S BMI WAS 22.9

Marilyn was a goddess back in the days before magazines such as seventeen and cosmo warped the self confidence of our young women...She lived in an era that saw her for EXACTLY what she was--beautiful and healthy...Just one week ago, my daughter had tears in her eyes when she held the new issue of People up to me....Tyra Banks was on the cover--she has recently been called "huge" and "fat" by media and others because her weight has 'ballooned' to the ungastly size of 165 lbs--the same weight as my 15 yr. old.  Holly was sure she was also fat and huge, because she also weighs 165.  My daughter is 5'7.5" tall, and is a varsity softball player as well as soccer...Fat--NO  Healthy--H*LL YES!   I aspire to be "as fat" as Marilyn!

About Tyra... was talking to my husband on the phone and we hit on the fact of how the media makes healthy people look "fat" and people that are skin and bones... look like they are on drugs seem "healthy" .. Then Tyra Banks came up - and he was like " I saw her on the news.." I explained everything to him.. he got pissed! LOL I said - I think she looks good.. just did not like her hair! and my husbands reply was ... "Honey, I did not even notice her hair.. her BODY was HOT" "total sexiness with all the curves" ( I was also told that is I start losing my butt... that I would have to stop losing weight hehe)

I'll take Marilyn over anyone today.  Skinny, sickly women that look like Pez dispensers!   Big heads on little bodies.  Really ugly if you ask me.  No matter how much weight I'll lose I don't have the body build to be that skinny and I'm glad for it.

Marilyn was a goddess. I love her. I have a calendar of her and she is my inspiration of the weight I want to be.  Tina

I just can't believe Hollywood's perspective on body image!!! Have you seen the weight loss commericals lately?  In the "before" pictures they look healthy, even in a bikini.  In the "after" photos, they look sickly thin.  My 11 yr old dd is the one who pointed this out to me. How sick is this country getting about weight?!?!  It seems like we are going to one extreme or the other-- too heavy or WAAAAY too thin.  What ever happened to balance and health??? BTW, one of the things I really like about this forum and the Lap-Band is that healthy balance.  I've lurked on some of the other boards and I've seen too many folks try to get to the low end of their ideal weight or less.  I for one am tired of this mentality of extremes, or "if some is good then more must be better". Okay, I'm done with my soapbox for now. Peace, Rana
