Erosion was the reason!

Last week Monday I had to have my band removed.  I went into surgery with xrays showing a small slip (prolapsed stomach) and the band out of position.  All intentions and understandings were to reposition the band.  I had been banded over 20 months, but could never keep a proper fill.  I had soft food syndrome, tightness in the mornings, lots of burping, and quite often had to make myself throw up to get food unstuck (just assumed I ate to fast or too big of a bite).  Everyone knows how fickle a band can be. On Friday I saw the dr to have my staples removed and he told me he tried everything to keep the band, but I have what he described as "2 ruts that were eroding into my stomach that the band kept sliding back and forth into".  He did not want to take any chances with the band eroding all the way through the stomach so he removed everything.  As I posted earlier I am super bummed about this. You don't hear "alot" about erosion with the band or what really causes it, so from a now "former bandster" to all bandsters it does happen!! I guess I am back to being a weigh****chers point person, ugh - again!! Take care, Barb

They cant put a new band in after the healing is done?

That would be a bummer to have to have it out and none put back in.

Kathy, My dr. did not discuss that all, he felt I was a better canidate for RYN, however I do not feel that is an option for me. Barb

I would recommend a 2nd opinion from an even more experienced banding surgeon. How many bands had your surgeon done at the time you were banded? Nancy

Jena ~ I have a direct exclusion for anything related to WLS surgeries - even removal, so I am now facing a VERY large surgeon, hospital and anethesiologist bill!!!!!!!!

In a list of  "what ifs"  when interviewing my surgeon, I asked about erosion. He said that the band would be removed, and after about six months healing time, a new band could be placed, if desired.  The client would pay 50% of the new band itself, no other fees, surgical or otherwise. Does your surgeon feel you could be rebanded? Alex
