Why am I so nauseaus?  Maybe it's all this sweet stuff or all the Splenda and NutraSweet.  Did anyone else have this?  I'm starving, but nauseaus.  YUCK!

Which liquid diet are you drinking?  Some of the liquid diets, if you notice some have carbs in them and some don't.  My Dr. wanted me on OPTIFAST which has about 18 carbs which basically made me a little nauseaus at first, so then I went to one of the Actifast, high protein low carb.  I think it's called ActiFast.  There is more in there and less carbs, but the same amount of protein.

DorothyAnn-bite your tongue!! If I'm pregnant there will be a murder.  LOL  Just kiddin Deeat44-I'm drinking the Slim Fast Low Carb.  They only have like 6 carbs in them. I think I figured out the nauseau though.  It's this horrible S/F Black Cherry jello.  Even the smell was nasty.

Couple possibilities ... A - You're having carbohydrate withdrawals.  It happens to some people who consume a lot of simple carbohydrates (sugar, white flour, white pasta, white rice). B - Caffeine withdrawals - if you've had to cut out or cut back on caffeine. C - The sugar alcohols in some SF or No Sugar Added products can make some people really sick.  I cannot eat anything that is SF or No Sugar Added if it replace the sugar with sugar alcohols.  I get sick to my stomach and super bad abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Or it could be something else entirely.  Aren't I helpful. How far into the pre-op diet are you?  I found that I felt much better after the 3rd day.  Not great, of course ... but better than the first three days.

Hi Carole-thanks for the reply.  I didn't even think of caffeine withdrawals.  Or it could be the carb withdrawals as well.  I'm only on day 1, so all of these withdrawals are very possible.  I usually don't have problems with sugar substitutes, but I never consume this much in 1 day.  I only drink diet soda and that's pretty much my only s/f vice.  Now, I've got shakes and jello and yogurt and pudding.  Oy vey.  This is going to be a loooong 10 days.

Hang in there, Tina!  You can do it.  And once you've done this you'll know you can do anything!

I was mildly nauseated for the 4 days I was on the liquid diet before surgery.  I attributed it to my body just feeling deprived of its normal supply of food.  I mean that was a serious reduction in calories, you have to expect a little rebellion.  I'm sure there are more technically correct reasons, but at least you know you aren't the only one that experienced the problem and it did get better.  I guess my body resigned itself to the fact that the food supply was gone for a while!
