I agree that at this point, you shouldn't be worrying about how much weight loss you have at this point. Having said that, I was on phentermine for the 3 months prior to surgery (not after).  It worked very well the first month, but my body developed a tolerance to it quickly and was no further help after that.  (Other than for the first time in my life I'd wake up in the morning and actually feel awake..boy do I miss that!)

I'm confused. My doc said that the weight I lose now are free pounds, because they are fairly easy. I went a month on liquids, will go a month on mushies, then soft foods, then real food. Why does everyone keep saying we shouldn't worry about losing weight now? Why wait?  I figure this is the time to get the kinks out and learn what to do.

What all are you eating? Are you drinking enough water? eating protein?  Maybe take a step back and look at what you are eating and track your calories.  maybe you are eating too much of the wrong things without realizing it?  I eat way too much fat.  I started tracking on fitday.com and that helps me a ton.   I'm not sure about the phentermine but I guess my thought about it is that it's not CHANGING your eating habits/behaviors.  These first few weeks are important to really look at your habits and change what and how you eat.  Eating protein with each meal and eat it first, then move on to veggies, fruits...if you can eat these things.  i'm not sure where you are with your post op diet.   I think my doc would ream me out if I wanted to take this med or others after getting banded since that's the point of the band.   Have you not lost any weight? not even a pound?  It is very hard and discouraging when you aren't losing but remind yourself that you WILL start to lose when you get fills but you need to change your eating habits if you haven't already otherwise you'll struggle still with the fills.   Or maybe you can call your nutritionist or surgeon and ask about what to eat to help you?  Just a few thoughts, no flames here! Take care! Malia

phenterimine is NOT SAFE i took it an almost had a stroke and that was before surgery...give your band time besides one of the reasons to have the surgery is so you don't have to take drugs like that give the band time to work...why complicate things with weight loss drugs you may as well not had the surgery ..you just have to get a fill and find your way it will b fine you have not had enough time to lose weight.

My doctor prescribed phentermine for me to use during PMS weeks because I would lose ALL restriction then.  I got 30 pills last september (?) and it's taken  me several months to use all of them.  I still have a few, put away (I make DH give them to me because I used to have a prescription drug addiction problem) if I need them in the future.  As long as you are monitored CAREFULLY by a real doctor (not a PA or a nurse) and only use them as directed, you should be fine.  Like Dee said, they can cause problems and if you aren't diligent with aftercare and making sure you don't abuse them or combine them with other things -  you will get into serious trouble.  I too thought once I got the band I would never touch another weight loss drug ever again.  But my doctor said sometimes you just need a little help.  Good luck to you! Thanks so much for the encouragement, ya'll.  I think the "mushies" probably have more calories than I need.  I'm going start walking more and practicing "patience."  Thanks for understanding my question and for the encouragement! Kelly
