Papya enzyme is my new best friend.  I have read about people using and having good results; so I too bought some.  It is helping with eating in the morning. I love you Papya Enzyme...

How do you take it?  With a meal or afterwards?  When do you feel that you need to take it?  Just curious as I am thinking about buying some.  THere seems to be mixed feelings about it on the board. Thanks

Coming from a surgeon's daughter - I would steer very clear of this.  This enzyme is the same thing as Adolf's Meat Tenderizer - Your esophagus - is just like meat.  If you want to truly damage your esophagus, this is the way to do it. I am continuously frightened for people when I see them recommending this very old home remedy which is VERY dangerous to the lining of your esophagus.  I would do some research before you consider putting this in your mouth so you can stay safe.  I definitey would not make it a regular practice - you are risking severe ulceration of the lining of your esophagus, Barrett's disease and possible esophageal cancer in the long run. Try a warm cup of tea - or give it time and plenty of fluids.  Anyone who does this takes a very real risk.  Just because you don't think you have damage from having done this - doesn't mean that you don't. You can have severe esophageal damage, for a long time, without pain and without any warning that you have damaged the lining of your esophagus.   Lapbanding can cause esophageal reflux as it is - to couple this with meat tenderizer - and then stomach acid if you have damaged the lining of your esophagus with it (even without knowing it) - could be a real recipe for disaster.  You may not have any pain or any knowledge that you have damaged the lining of your esophagus. There is at least one case of a doctor that was sued (successfully) for recommending this to a patient and the patient having severe damage.

I have never heard anything negative about papya enzyme until your post.  I will research it.  A good frined of mine takes this on recommendation of her physicial as a natural digestive aid.  But, I will look into what you are saying and keep it on my best friends list until I get proof that it is dangerous.   Thanks for the heads up!  Susan

I agree this can cause problems.  I took it- and loved it- until I ended up with gastritis.  Be careful if you take it!

I just bought it yesterday to use when I get the "stuck" sensation. It worked very nicely this morning when I ate my oatmeal.

Hon, I would think it would help ppl, who have a hard time eating in the am. I take the pills, when I'm not stuck, real bad, and it helps. It doesn't help everyone, just like anything else! ha I chew, maybe, 4-5 of them. If I'am stuck really bad, (don't tell anyone), I drink a little diet Pepsi, and it always unsticks me! Have a good day, hon!

I use Papaya enzyme when I get stuck or feel myself getting stuck.   I have purchased two different brands, NOW and GNC.  I prefer the GNC Brand as they dissolve quicker than the NOW brand.   GNC also has a little purse size container you can buy.    I don't leave home without it, it's saved my butt a few times. One short note, I have googled or searched papaya enzyme a few times and never have I read anything negative about it.  Matter of fact people take it for many things.  Papaya juice and the fruit itself tastes great!

I am going to search to find more info on this.  I too have never read anything negative about the enzyme.
