Hi Dr. Curry. Several of us have this question.  I had lap-band April 5.  I have lost about 70lbs. so far.  But lately I changed to eating a natural fruit and vegetable smoothies.   I have eaten one daily for the last month and noticed that I only lost about 3 lbs. this month.  Someone on the board suggested that it was because fruits with all the carbs keep the weight on you or sometimes even make you gain weight.  Can you help us with this ocncern?

Smoothies are liquid calories, and are to be avoided.  A fruit smoothie, natural or not, has no protein and will get you nowhere with weight loss.  Some vegetables have more protein than others, without knowing the exact nutritional count for what you are eating it is hard to say.  Smoothies do not keep you full, smoothies do not have a lot of protein, therefore smoothies are not recommended band foods. I had the lap band three years ago and have lost 90 pounds or so.   I started having some issues last December and could never get in to see the surgeon who did my procedure and with the encouragement of a friend I switched to another local surgeon who also specializes in the lap band and gastric bypass.  In May after seeing him with some problems with heart burn he did some flouro tests and it was determined my band had slipped.  We did a complete unfill and in September I paid cash for a revision with a hernia repair.  Since then it has taken me two months to get in to see him as his office staff has come and gone.  I finally got in last week and he could not find my port.  He then stated that he would have to do a fill under flouro again and then he would draw a map.  It has been a week since this visit and they still have not scheduled me.  I get put on hold and they never return my calls.  I have paid 5,000.00 for this surgery and I feel like they are putting me off.  I don't want to be put off any longer.  I just want to get back on the road to being healthy as I am a diabetic.  I'm not sure where to turn.  I've been eating alright, but I'm still having the heart burn which they have not called my pharmacy with a prescription yet.  I have just come so far and I'm tired of feeling like I don't count.  Have you had patients where the band has slipped?  Have they gone to be fine or have they had to be rebanded etc?  If you could give me some guidance I would very much appreciate anything you can suggest.
