Good Morning, Hi.... I went to my class that was required by my Doctor. It was called "Weight Loss Surgery Overview" given by Kaiser. Well when I was in the class, I was the only one there for the Lap-Band, everyone else was having the gastric bypass. This lady came up to me and asked my why I wanted to have the lap-band instead of the gastric. I said that it was less evasiv and my Mom had a gastric and it was horrible what she has been through. I weigh 264 and I am 5'5" tall, I need to lose about 130 pounds. If you could share with me why you chose the Lap-Band OVER the gastric bypass that would be wonderful. Thanks, Marcella

I chose Lap Band: Because it's less invasive Because there is less potential for major complications Because it's reversible (if necessary) Because it has a lower mortality rate (1 in 2000 vs. 1 in 200 for gastric) Because recovery time is much faster Because I don't ever want my insides permanently rerouted Because at 5 years out, LB patients have lost about the same as GBS patients Because I want my body to still be able to absorb nutrients Because I'm willing to live with a slow but steady weight loss

i would like to "Dido" what Kim A. said.  Those are the exact reasons I did it.  Slow but sure, the weight comes off.  it also allows the skin to keep up with the weight loss and I don't think you get as bad the saggy skin that comes along with losing a lot of weight.  certainly, there will be some, but not as much.  I really like the fact that the piping is still in place and it is reversable.  That was just a huge issue for me so if I ever decide i want to but obese again, skiddlydoo, yahoo, I can be.  I don't see that happening though.  But at least the option is there.

Yes those are all of my reasons too, plus I am hoping that with slower loss, my skin will not be quite as droopy.  I know I will see extra skin but maybe not as much.

With Gastric you have to take a handful of vitamins the rest of your life or you can die from malnutrition. That is just too scary for me. Lap Band, I get to take 2 Flintstones complete a day for the rest of my life? Bring it on! No cutting of my stomach, less risk of complications, the list goes on and on. I do feel that everyone must make their own decisions based on their own eating habits and lifestyle. For me, Gastric just doesn't seem necessary. Lap Band is exactly the tool that I need to succeed!
