Did you have to drink a whole bottle of Milk of Mag. day prior to surgery?

I'd ask my doctor why you are required to do this --- for lapband. It would be interesting to know.  Seems odd, as the above poster said, this isn't RNY. Get back to us if you do find out. I didn't have to do it.

Hi, For those wondering why my surgeon wants his patients to do a mag. cit. treatment is in case there was something that happened in surgery or even after the procedure he does not want there to be stool anywhere that could infect or contaminate the system...obviously this is just a percaution ...makes sense....I guess I was having problems with the thought of drinking the whole bottle not just a few tablespoons! My doctor had me drink two bottles of that phospha soda, and believe me that was no picnic.  And make sure you do it while at home.  I was going to take it before I left work, thank goodness I didn't, I wouldn't have made it home in time.  I spent most of the evening on the potty.  Hope your doctor won't make you do it.  I had a friend drop like five pounds if it's any consolation lol.  Tammy Lynn
