Gaining weight back!

Ok, I am almost 3years out. Lost a total of 116lbs, but for the last 7-9 months, my weight has yo-yoed. I would not loose, then lose 2lbs.  Well, I had a fill in June07 and then one on Jan 2,08 I had GAINED 11 lbs! Boy, was I upset.  But after the fill I really did not feel all that restricted.  I called the center, and they told me I would have to get approval from the Dr since it was only 2 weeks. Well, I thought I would just wait and try to eat really well.  Guess what? Gained another 6 lbs.  I really try to eat healthy food, but I have discovered I love to drink wine. I have cut back to only drinking it a few times a week.  I am not sure that is the problem, but I am just so bummed out.  I hate to get another fill, and take the chance of over filling myself. But I did not do this to gain weight. Any thoughts that might help would be appreciated. I still have 40 lbs to goal. Thanks,

I think you simply need to record all your food intake including the wind to nail down where you are eating too much....and be sure you are exercising regularly.

Wow don't quit now you've come far to far.  Keep up the band rules.  Journal what you're eating, exercise, exercise, exercise.  And remember that all of those empty calories and carbs in that wine are the DEVIL LOL!!!  You can do this.  Remember what you did in the beginning to lose all of that weight and do it again.  Best of luck to you. I am not here to get on to you but STOP THE WINE!  It is just liquid calories, go back to the lap band rules protein first, veggies, and then carbs.and i bet you will start seeing the scales go down. I know a lady that told the doctor she needed a fill  that she was always hungry, and when he found out she was not getting her protein in he would not give her a fill, she was mad at him but once she started getting her protein she had no problems. I wish you all the best, just hang in there and things will start to move again. Brenda

I agree with Banana.  Log all your food (and I mean ALL of it) and exercise for a week (I use software I bought from dietorganizer.com, but you can do it for free at fitday, the daily plate, spark people, etc.) and then take a long, hard look at your total daily calories and how you're "spending" them.  My nutritionist said a good balance is 35% complex carbohydrates, 35% protein, 30% fat. As for the wine, I think you'll have to avoid it as long as you still have weight to lose.  It's empty calories and I find that even one drink disinhibits me too much - makes it too easy to have a 2nd drink, make poor food choices, and overeat. And as for getting another fill, exactly why do you not feel restricted?  If you're getting physically hungry between meals, you may need another fill.  But I wouldn't hurry to get one.  First I'd concentrate on getting a handle on your eating and increasing your exercise. First, congratulations on the success that you have had. Second, I think you are probably taking in more liquid calories than you realize.  My suggestion would be to pay close attention to the liquid calories (not just wine, but also lattes - my personal choice for liquid calories - milk shakes, ice cream, etc) and see how much they are adding up to.  If my guess is correct, eliminating some of those calories might be enough to do the trick. As a side note, I read an article a few months back about alcohol and weight gain/loss.  They had several women (can't recall exactly how many) stop drinking all alcohol for a period of time.  I think it was a month.  They made no other changes in their eating, drinking and/or exercise habits.  Every single one of the women lost weight!  As I recall, it was anywhere from 7 to 20 or so pounds.  And please, if you find the article and my numbers are a bit off, forgive me, my memory fades after a bit.... Any way, I too like my glass of wine in the  evening.  But, if I need to take off a few pounds, I know that is the quickest and easiest way to do it. Take care and good luck!

Interesting.  Do you remember if the science behind the results was due strictly to the calorie reduction (of not drinking).....or was there something more to it? I drin****asionally (maybe 1 or 2x a week, maybe 1-2 drinks at a sitting).......but I account for it in my calories.

I wish I remembered the story better!  It's been a few months though.   As I recall, I think the main thrust was the calories from the alcohol itself.  I do think it mentioned that we tend to eat more when we are drinking too.  Or I might be remembering that part from other stories.  I do a lot of reading on the topic.... Sorry, I can't remember better.
