Fruits and Veggies
I think I was so afraid of having things get "stuck" that I've gone too far... I'm not getting veggies and fruits in at nearly the level I feel like I should be. I eat baked potatoes pretty regularly, but I've been too afraid to try much else... I'm ready to start trying, even if it means some trial-and-error...
What kind of fruits/veggies have any of you found successful?
How did you prepare them?
Thanks!
i think steamed veggies are always pretty safe. Everyone's different but I can personally eat anything I want just sometimes I can only eat a few bites. I am able to eat really any fruit and vegetable. I prefer salads and raw veggies but I am a vegetarian and vegetables are a major staple for me. I would start off with boiled/steamed veggies and go from there. As far as fruit goes, I would avoid things like oranges and apples (or atleast remove the skin from the apple).
Good luck!
Please keep in mind potatoes are considered a bread/starch, not a vegetable. You should be able to eat green beans fine. Start with those then add others that are soft. Stay away from corn though as it is also a starch and can stop you up. I like green beans, squash, carrots, brussel sprouts, cooked cabbage. As for fruits, I can't eat oranges or grapefruit, applesauce is filling, watch fresh apple skins, I get the fruit cups in their own juices. I can't seem to eat the fruit up when I buy it fresh. Bananas are also good.

I've been able to do pretty much any veggie, even asparagus and broccoli which I read might cause me problems. I haven't tried salad since my last fill which left me much more restricted than I have been in the past so not sure about that one. Steaming seems to be a good way to prepare veggies. I don't eat fruit because it raises my blood sugar.
Be careful with potatoes... they're a simple carb... not a veggie.
Lap Band September 2007 / Slip discovered March 2014 after significant regain / Revised to VSG April 29, 2014
Watermelon..loved it after being banded..ate it alot. melons are really good. My doctor said the last time I was in that I now have to cut up everything..even bananas so may want to start practicing. Cabbage, turnip greens, green beans, carrots, squash are all good to start with..cook them done and chew chew chew..I would stay away from broccoli unless you cook it way done and chop it up..peel off the outside because sometimes that is tough.

I eat all veggies and most fruits. But I need to take care. Things like Brussel sprouts need a LOT of chewing for me and I cannot eat the peel of apples and pears. I eat them cooked all ways and also raw - even hard things like carrot.

Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

This may sound odd but things have changed for me. At one time I was able to only eat salad. No fruit, no veggies and for sure no potatoe. Now, for some odd reason Salad repulses me and I'm getting more veggies down like cauliflower, broccoli, zucchini. As for fruits, I can eat grapes, grapefruit and oranges without the inside skins. Melons, berries apples are a little harder even though I peel them.
I often hear folks say bands are fickle, I'm starting to see first hand how fickle. I would suggest just trying slowly, chew well and maybe even try drinking something warm prior to eating your veggies and fruits.
Good luck and enjoy
I know what you mean about worrying about getting stuck, but I've gradually worked my way back to eating 'nomal'. I haven't any raw veggies since the surgery, but I've been able to eat everything else I've tried. I try to have a fruit or vegetable at every meal. I buy lots of the frozen veggies in butter sauce or sometimes cheese sauce - brussel sprouts, brocolli, etc. I've made mashed cauliflower and have no trouble with that. I made chili this weekend and no problems with anything in that. Oh and I love cooked carrots (put a little ginger on them). For fruits I buy frozen mixed berries and I put 1/2 cup in my oatmeal or on cottage cheese. I recently tried canned mandarin oranges and had no trouble. I think if you chew chew chew you probably won't have any trouble at all.
