Never head of Ablasion??  I did have a hysterectomy in 2004, I was having lots of problems, I had fibored tumors....it was bad...I actually ended up with an emegercy hysterectomy.  I was neverous and scared but I can tell you I feel much better. Good luck with your decision.  I was actually back to work in 2 weeks.  The doctor said that was VERY VERY rare case, he really couldn't beleive it.  But you know what I WALKED, AND WALKED, AND WALKED and I really think that helped.

Thanks Lynn, Ablasion is fairly new..they can either burn or freeze the lining of the uterus away and hope that it stops the bleeding....it completely stops some womens periods, slows others and does nothing for some....it is an in the office procedure with one day off work. On the other hand, if I need to have the hysterectomy I would love to do it during the summer, but if lots of people have good experiences with the ablasion, maybe I should try that first. What about hormone issues?

I had Ablasion and it did not work so a few years after suffering I had a hysterectomy. I still have my overies and take no hormones. It was the best thing I have ever done especially at my age (48). I tried many different things and nothing worked for me but all people are different. After my surgery I was ready to go back to work after a week but the doc made me stay home for 1 month.

I have no hormone issues, I started taking them but didn't like them, I felt they were making me fatter....So my doctor said fine, either way it's up to you...so I stopped, I have no hot flashes or anything??? The only thing that bothers me is I'm dry during those "intimate times"...but there are things for that....LOL

I had an ablasion in june 06 and it has been WONDERFUL!!!  I had fybroids that were causing problems for me, it took 30 mins and went home w/o pain or cramps, nothing....   with a hysterectomy you have a 4 hour major procedure and a 3-4 day hospital stay.  I would definately have the Ablasion first and hopefully that will be enough.  PM me if you have any questions.  Good luck!

I can tell you I had a histerectomy 16 years ago, I was 30 something.. it was the best thing i could have done.  They took Miss uterus out thru my vaginie leaving my ovaries cuz they were fine.. (spelled wrong for the English majors).. it was a breeze really.. i was back to work in 3 weeks (after much pleading with my dr)..  i have had no problem and feel great.. my last test which was April 08, she said I hadn't started Meanopause which is great! Honestly, if I had known it was so easy I wish I had done it earlier.  I had huge issues which kept me tired all the time, never knew when my happy date was coming so it would always be one of *those* surprises..    If your ovaries are fine, leave them there you shouldn't have any hormone issues if they leave them..  Good luck with your decision.. I know nothing about the burning thingy.. sorry

A few years ago, I had a complete hysterectomy - uterus, ovaries - and have to do HRT to prevent hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings.  Mine was abdominal and I took off 2 weeks.  A friend of mine had a vaginal hysterectomy and took off 4 weeks. Another friend had 3 (count 'em, 3) ablasians before she finally gave up and had a vaginal hysterectomy.  They left her ovaries intact, so no hormone problems for her. Jean

Thanks Ladies! He says my ovaries are fine...the byopsy of my uterus (OUCH!!) came back fine.  I am very anemic, have been taking weekly IVs for months now and the doctor says as soon as we put some in, your monthly comes and you lose part of it...so I suppose I should do what I know will work....an ablasion may work, but a hystercomy is 100% sure to work! Thanks Again, Mechelle

I had an ablasion done about 10 years ago.  I LOVE IT!!!! I have endometriosis and my doctor felt I was too young to have a hysterectomy at that time.  We went with the ablasion and it was really the best thing for me.  I did not have a period for the first 7 years and now I have a very light period about 3 times a year for one or two days, what a blessing.  I have all my parts and no problems with hormones.  If you want to ask more questions you can pm me.
