Ablasion or hysterectomy
Hi Mechelle....I had ablation 2 years ago, and had no periods at all, and no problems...until 4 mths ago. I have been cramping so badly, like labor pains that don't ever go away. I finally went to the gyn and had a CT Scan and 3 sonograms and found out that the ablation "hardened" my cervix (kinda like scarring it), which kept it from opening like it normally would to expel the contents of my uterus. They could see "fluid" in my uterus, as well as an endometrium that was over 2 cm thick (a normal uterine lining on someone who has NOT had ablation should only be 4mm or less, so mine was REALLY thick). Long story short, last Monday I had a D&C to remove the built-up uterine contents, and I felt fine until last Friday. Now for the past 3 days, I have been cramping even worse than before, constantly. I have to take a Rx pain killer that constipates me, and I fear if I take it anymore, I'm gonna get addicted! Anyway.....sorry this is so long....I wish I had listened to my gyn 2 years ago when he tried to tell me that so many women end up having to have the hysterectomy later anyway. Now I have a different gyn who doesn't seem to want to consider a hyst. Of course, every patient is different. My best friend had ablation 4 years ago and is having no problems and only spots a couple times a year. And I was in that same boat until February this year!
Now I think I'm gonna have to BEG for a hysterectomy when I go for my D&C follow-up appointment tomorrow!!!

I had an ablation and 2003 and it was great. It stopped all my heavy bleeding and cramping. I thought I was going to be able to avoid the hysterectomy, but now I have ovarian cysts and an unidentified large mass on my uterus. I am having a hysterectomy next week. I don't regret having the ablation, it gave me several years of not having to take HRT.
