Ok... Some People Are Going To Find This Post DISGUSTING But I Have To Talk About It...
I don't ever remember having boils, but my granddaughter had 3 when she was only a year old. They got to be about 5 inches around and a angry red color, and when they opened our PCP tested them and they were caused by a staph infection and were highly contagious. My poor granddaughter would scream when we changed her diaper, until they were open and drained.
I thought I was the only one who experianced this!!!!!!
My endocrinologist told me to wash my whole body in Betadine surgical wash (Hair included) and use Neomycin gel (vancomycin gel) in my nostrils a couple of times a day and continue to do this for 2 weeks. My endocrinologist says it is common for women with PCOS to get boils (yuck yuck yuck) and that it is caused by staph (which is normal on everybody's skin) combined with the 'stickyness' of our blood caused by the the insulin resistance.
I found this regieme worked really well for me. I did not have a boil for over 2 years after this one 2 week treatment.
My heart goes out to you all who experiances this- they are sooooooooo painful! I once had one on my thigh that was so big and painful that I could barely walk!

My response is not for the faint at heart... A little gross...
I have been diagnosed with Hidradenitis suppurativa and I had it when I was thin as a teenager... Mostly get cysts under my arms and inner thighs and my under arms are sooooo scarred...
I actually had a bad episode about a year and a half ago where I had an old cyst on my abdominal wall that got infected and expanded to about 2-3 inches in diameter and burst. When it burst, it was the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. I remember I was self treating it and was sitting on my toilet trying to clean it up and when I looked down to see the cross section, there was seriously a hole in my stomach. I looked like I had been shot. When I saw this, I got really shaky and called my doctor.
She asked me if the area around the cyst was red and I said yes but it was huge. She advised me to go to the ER IMMEDIATELY!!
When I got there, I showed the triage nurse and I didnt have to wait to be seen. I had developed cellulitis which is apparently pretty serious and it had spread about 6-8 inches around the cyst each way. The ER doctor said that if I waited til the next morning to come in, I could have ended up staying in the hospital for a couple of days. They treated me with a tom of IV antibiotics and I had to go back to the cancer center the next day for more.
The cyst was pretty painful however, not as painful as it could have been because I had a C-Section a few years back and dont have a lot of sensitivity in my lower stomach. My PCP almost had a heart attack when she saw this and couldnt believe I hadnt come in to be seen sooner but I had no idea how bad it was.
The good news in this case is that because of my HS, insurance will pay for a tummy tuck, boob lift, under arm lift and inner thigh lift if I want it when I lose all of my weight...
Good luck and the bath with epsom salts does work.

I have been getting boils on and off over the years also in the lower regions mostly, altho I got one once right between my breasts and still have the scar from it.
One of the things that does help when you get them and they are at that painful stage under the skin is to put VICKS on them regularly. I know that sounds weird but VICKS creates heat because of the menthol and that heat get the boil stimulated so it will pop and drain quicker. It is like putting a hot cloth on it. As soon as I feel something perculating I start applying the VICKS and it brings it to a head quickly and I don't think they get a chance to grow as large because of it.
If hunger is not the problem, then eating is not the solution!
I get them in my armpits. When I feel one starting, I put hot compresses on it (as hot as I can stand it) for about 20 minutes, then soak a bandaid with Campophenique. and leave it on over night. Do the hot compress thing again, and then the band aid thing. If you get right on it, it should prevent it from getting big and painful. I have been known to knock them down before they get to a head
I did a ton of research on the net about it. This is the best solution that worked for me. I also tried the zinc oxide...didn't work very well.

Right after i had my second son (18 yrs ago) I had what i thought was reoccuring boils. I would get them everywhere on my body. Usually 1 or 2 at a time but it seems like once one would heal another one popped up. This went on for about a year when i finally went to the doctor who told me they were actually carbuncles. They are very contagious, painful and alot like boils. I went to a dermologist who put me on a birth control pill called triphasil for 6 months. It sounds pretty weird but it worked. Check with your dermologist and ask about it.

HI Amanda. I suffered with boils for a very long time. You could play "connect the boils" on my poor body and painful....without a doubt! I had a mammogram once and the technician said nobody should suffer like that as she looked at the numerous boils I had along my braline.
For me, the only thing that worked was to quit using shower soap and switch to Noxzema lathering body wash. If I use another soap (like when we went on vacation I forgot my Noxzema), I will end up with several boils within a day or 2. I've not only had them on my thighs, under my breasts, but got them on my rear and in my privates. Sorry, TMI, but true.
Maybe try the Noxzema and see if it helps. It sure has me.
Good luck.
