My husbands port is coming OUT of his incision! **added pictures**
I had to go into emergency surgery to have them change my port and it hurt worse than the original surgery. The reason for that is that my surgeon had to scrap off all of the 1st scar tissue so that I didn't have 2 layers of scar tissue. I still went back to work, surgery on Thurs and back to work on Monday...you are just more aware of it....Good Luck

Yes you read that right, and no I am not kidding! He had his surgery September 9th and his incision wouldn't heal. He has been wearing gauze over it because it hs been draining so bad. He has been in to get it checked out 3 different times, and finally started an antiobiotic. Well the anti-biotic cleared up the infection and pushed his port out the hole of his incision. When he woke up Saturday morning (1 week of antibiotics) we saw a big glob of stitches AND two stitches that were sewen to something white.. something really white so we knew it wasn't tissue. He went in at 1 this afternoon and it is his PORT that those two stitches are sewen to that is now visible and literally sticking out of his incision! So he is being scheduled for a port revision ASAP. I hope they don't make him wait more then a day or two. He has been in so much pain the past 2 days. This totally sucks in a major way considering it is more time off of work and main source of income is his job! Wonderful.... hopefully the next one will go smoothly and heal properly!
How painful is a port revision?
The problem is that if they take the same port and move it to a new location he will have a repeat infection. I'd suggest removing the port completely for three months, let him completely heal, then put a new port in on another location.
I'm sorry he's going through this.
First let me say I added some pictures on my profile... didn't want to post them in case some don't want to see it. You can clearly see the stitches.. and the white part is the port.
Secondly.. they WILL put in a new port. They are removing the one he has now, and putting a new port on the other side of his stomach and moving the tubing around, that is what they explained they will do.
I honestly do NOT believe it is the doctors fault in any way, he had problems with the incision from the beginning that I believe I have posted or blogged about. If he got an infection it isn't her fault. She is a very well qualified surgeon.
If you are interested you can see his pictures in my profile.

I just had a port revision last Thursday and am back at my desk job today. Having said that, I had a VERY difficult week-end. It was very painful. I was awake during which was 'weird'and felt fine after, but was very sore later that night and the next couple days. I think they had to really maneuver around in there and stretch some of the muscle and such. I hope it goes smoothly for him! Best of luck.
*Had to get my port flipped back in place, reason for revision.

Well he is ok waiting until Friday because he does want his surgeon to do it and not a partner that he hasn't met. And really he isn't in any pain until it is time for bed, then his back starts hurting so he takes his medicine and sleeps ok.
He in IT so it is a desk job and the guys he works with are really nice so I am sure they will help out. He could work from home but he is ok with going in.
The doctor said he would be completely under general anthesia so he won't be awake during his. Hopefully he won't be in too much pain. At least it is on a Friday so he has the weekend, and then next week is a short week is Thanksgiving so that will be a short week for him too which will help.
Amazingly enough he has been losing great! He has lost 35 pounds since his surgery in September! Hopefully this won't slow it down!

Leanne, please give JJ my best, I think he must have a really high pain tolerance since he has been able to go threw this, I would have pass out every time I looked at it, and then, I would have said just take it out, cause I freak out like that. I can understand him wanting Dr. Gupta to do the revision I totally trust her, I just think maybe something should have been done sooner, but I don't' know how she could have found his port to give him a fill and not have seen there was a problem. Who knows how these things work. Hopefully he will come threw this with no more problems, and continue to lose like he has been losing. My prayers are with him.
Yeah it is pretty crazy! He got his fill just fine, it never looked infected, just never healed. She mentioned around 3 weeks out of surgery that she hoped it didn't get an infection since it didn't close up. And then again when he went in at 6 weeks for his fill. It really never looked infected just not healed.
Now last week it looked infected and she gave him the option to try an anti-biotic to see if that will clear up or go ahead and do a port revision. He choose to try the anti-biotic first. Well it cleared it up but pushed his port out too. ANd his first fill was under fluro too.
It is all a little freaky but hopefully will get worked out and be smooth sailing after this.
