how do you pick yourself up after a bad day?

I hit my goal a few weeks ago (yay! total of 145 lbs gone!) and have been maintaining well so far. That's the good news! The bad is that I've really stumbled the past couple days. I have had a lot of job-related stress (found out I am expected to take one week without pay this quarter) and have dealt with it in the wrong, unhealthful way: by eating! I never eat junk, but in the past two days I've had a candy bar and Cheetos. Gross!!! Can you all share some ways you give yourself a kick in the pants when you need it? I know we're all human and no one is perfect. I guess I need to chalk it up to that and start over. It's a new day RIGHT NOW! :)

Sorry you have so much stress right now. Stress is a food addicts nightmare.

The good news is that every day we have a new fresh and clean slate:).

When I am making my coffee in the morning I think to myself today is a new beginning. I have not put anything in my mouth to sabotage myself and it makes me feel good. I then sit down and plan what I am going to eat for the day including snacks. I find that if I plan ahead it really helps me. I also log my food on myfooddiary.com so I know where I stand calorie wise.

No one is perfect and we all fall sometimes, we just need to forgive ourselves and move on.

Try not to keep the "Bad" stuff in the house and when you are feeling a lot of stress maybe a walk or a hot relaxing bath will help.

Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss success!!!

Well done for getting to goal! And, of course, you can now eat more, in fact you need to in order to maintain. So a couple of sugary things aren't going to have any adverse effect.

If you were eating 1200 before, you will need more to maintain. My nut worked it out and at my present weight of 142ish, I should eat 2100 to keep this weight! If you look at any packet food and they give the recommended daily calories for a women, it is always about 2000. So if you are generally eating healthily, those two "extras" will probably not take you over your limit.

Bu my personal kick in the pants is my scales. I weigh every day and have a range I permit myself. If I go even 1oz over, I make very sure it goes! And so far it has always gone quickly!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Yes I think you hit it right on the money! You are human.. start over.  Even normally skinny people do things like eat a snickers bar once in a while.  You have obviously changed your eating habits greatly and just feel a bit guilty.. just start over... thats the beauty of the band...you can start over at any time.

Congratulations on hitting goal, you are doing wonderful.  I do understand what you are takling about when if comes to stress eating. I do not bring any junk food in the house any more. If it there is will be calling me. Just remember why you had the surgery, If you have a pair of pants that you wore when you started this journey, get them out and try them on. I do that it and it makes me think i do not ever want to go back to this size again and how bad i felt physically. Don't beat yourself up, like you said no one is perfect. We just have to travel this weight loss journey one day at a time. Have a great weekend,

Hi, alc ..... i'm in the exact same boat as you with the one-week furlough.  found out this week we have to take a week off without pay.  hey, maybe we work for the same company.  LOL.  actually, there's a possibility we do.  are you in the news business, by any chance?

it's soooo hard not to do the stress eating, but i just stay focused and keep reminding myself why i can't do the stress eating and looking at how far i've come and the changes i've made, both physically and mentally.  and, the one thing i've learned from so many people here is that i can't beat myself up.  in my pre-band life, i'd beat myself silly if i messed up and then i'd just keep eating to pacify myself and the vicious cycle began.  but, now, i stop the beatings and look at the positive side ... look at the fact that you've reached goal.  look at what you've learned.  look at the wonderful changes you've made in yourself.  look at what you can do now that you're 145 lbs. lighter.  there are sooooo many great things to see!

If i am having a bad day I make sure to get to the gym and then I workout extra hard or extra long.  If I eat something I know I shouldn't, I don't wait until the next day to "start over."  I make the next meal high protein and I also drink a lot of water for the remainder of the day.  Things happen that are out of our control.  The suggestions I offered are things I can control.

You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!
