Hello!
I had gastric bypass just over 10 years ago, and for the last 6 years the weight has been coming back. I'm now 75lbs above my weight when I first got the bypass. I went to my surgeon about  5 years ago and he said my surgury has not come undone so there was nothing he could do. I went back again last week, had an upper gi, and the radiologists said that my surgery was still intact to this day. i have an appointment with the surgeon on tuesday, in which i assume he'll tell me I'm out of luck, though not definitely, as i understand that there are more options than there were 5 years ago. I'm curious about the lap band. i've poked around the forums a bit and see that there are drs who will do lap band after gp, but has anybody here actually had it done? did it help?

thanks,
ffff

Check out the Revisions Forum. There are a few folks over there with similar stories

I agree you need to check out the revision forum. You probably need a few professional opinions.

Just an observation, Your Avie name seems very degrading to ones self esteem, Maybe you need some counseling also. ALL of us here on OH are, or have been Obese and we all understand. Please take a good look at yourself and realize that you are worthy of all the good that life has to offer.

Best wishes,

Lyndee

Hi!  Thanks for your question.  I have not had gbypass however I know that my doctor has had several patients who have had gastric bypass and have then had the lapband procedure performed.  Here is an awesome link for you to check out on this topic to give you some information:

Hi there. From the date on your avatar it would appeair you had your surgery just over 11 years ago. Sorry you are experiencing problems. Revisions board would more than likely be more helpful. I would also suggest you speak more with your surgeon, since you haven't spoken to them in five years. You need to make sure you are a candidate for revision.

How did you find us here on OH? I hope you find the help you are seeking.

I had a lap band placed over my old stapling from 1982 (which was firmly intact!).  I've lost 13 lbs so far and feel as though my band experience is pretty much the same as every other band person.  I had gained all of my weight back and got back up to 330 lbs and pretty much lived like this until I found this web site and started reading the revision forum.

I chose a band for several reasons:  My doctor could have gone in and "re-do" the entire thing but the risks were many, having a leak, bowel obstruction etc.  These are major complications.
There are others who have also had this done and are succeeding.

Check it out...there's no harm in that and good luck!

I AGREE WITH LYNDEE~~YOUR WEIGHT/OBESITY DOES NOT DEFINE WHO YOU ARE. PLEASE STOP BEATING YOURSELF UP. YOU ARE WORTH MORE. REMEMBER~~NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER, THE REAL STORY LIES WITHIN THE BINDING. GOD BLESS AND GOOD LUCK. PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU~~~KATHY

thank you all! my name is more of a tongue-and-cheek thing. obviosuly, i'm not happy about my weight, but i understand beneath the insulation lives a pretty decent guy with a lot of talent and wonderful wife and family. i've always taken the "attack yourself with humor before anybody else attacks you" approach. it's something you learn as a fat kid in grade school :D

i'm checking out the revision board as we "speak", and there's alot of good info there. i'll be back when my surgeon and i decide what to do. got one more test to do and then i see my surgeon on tuesday.

Yep! A friend of mine (in his 40s) had the bypass at about 400+lbs..... then started gaining back. He got the band on top of the bypass and is now at his lowest of 216lbs. He is doing great!!

2019: 11 years out and maintaining a loss of 150lbs.
